Gallery North is a contemporary art space designed to recede into the background, allowing the exhibited work to command full attention. The architecture provides a neutral yet dynamic backdrop where light becomes the primary sculptural element, shifting throughout the day to animate white walls and cast subtle shadows.
The gallery occupies a renovated industrial building, where we introduced a series of north-facing skylights that bathe the interior in consistent, diffused natural light—the gold standard for art display. Movable partition walls allow for flexible exhibition layouts, while a dedicated climate control system maintains museum-quality environmental conditions year-round.
"An art gallery should be a stage that disappears. Our role was to create an environment of perfect neutrality where light does all the work."
Natural light enters exclusively from the north through custom skylights with UV-filtering glazing. Supplemental LED track lighting allows precise accent illumination. All artificial light sources are tunable to match natural daylight temperature.
Smooth white plaster walls, polished concrete floors, blackened steel details, and white oak for the entry sequence. Material palette restricted to neutrals that won't compete with exhibited artwork.
Movable wall panels on ceiling track allow infinite exhibition configurations. Concealed power and data throughout. Walls rated to support heavy sculpture and large-format paintings. Storage accessible via separate service entrance.
