Architects of
Quiet Elegance

Founded on the belief that the most profound beauty emerges from restraint, Arc Studio has spent nearly a decade refining the art of minimalist architecture

A Practice Built on Principles

Arc Studio was founded in 2015 by architects Elena Winters and Marcus Chen, who met while working on a museum renovation in Copenhagen. United by a shared vision for architecture that privileges space, light, and material honesty over ornamentation, they established a practice dedicated to creating environments of contemplative beauty.

What began as a two-person studio in a converted Brooklyn warehouse has grown into a team of twelve talented designers, all committed to the same core philosophy: that architecture should enhance life without demanding attention, creating backdrops for human experience rather than competing with it.

Our work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the AIA National Honor Award, the Architectural Record Design Vanguard, and features in publications from Dwell to Architectural Digest. But our greatest satisfaction comes from clients who tell us their spaces bring them peace—that coming home feels like exhaling.

OUR VALUES

What Guides Our Work

RESTRAINT

We believe in the power of subtraction. Every element must earn its place, serving both function and aesthetic with quiet confidence. Ornament for its own sake has no home in our work.

CRAFT

Details matter. From the weight of a door handle to the shadow line of a ceiling plane, we obsess over execution. Great architecture exists in the millimeter-perfect junction between materials.

COLLABORATION

The best projects emerge from true partnership. We listen deeply, ask questions, and involve our clients at every step. Your vision and our expertise combine to create something neither could achieve alone.

SUSTAINABILITY

Timeless design is inherently sustainable. We create buildings meant to last generations, specify durable materials, optimize for passive heating and cooling, and design flexibility into every space.

CONTEXT

Every site has a story. We study climate, topography, views, and neighboring structures to create architecture that feels inevitable—as if it grew from the ground rather than being imposed upon it.

LIGHT

Light is our primary material. We choreograph its movement through space across hours and seasons, using it to reveal form, define volume, and create atmosphere that shifts with the passing day.

OUR TEAM

The People Behind the Projects

ELENA WINTERS

Co-Founder & Principal

Elena studied at the Yale School of Architecture and worked with John Pawson in London before co-founding Arc Studio. Her approach combines Scandinavian restraint with California optimism, resulting in spaces that feel both serene and uplifting.

MARCUS CHEN

Co-Founder & Principal

With a background in structural engineering from MIT and architecture from Harvard GSD, Marcus brings technical precision to creative vision. His obsession with material performance ensures our designs are as sound as they are beautiful.

SOFIA RODRIGUEZ

Senior Project Manager

Sofia orchestrates the complex dance of construction, coordinating contractors, consultants, and clients with grace and efficiency. Her fifteen years of experience mean projects run smoothly from groundbreaking to final walkthrough.

JAMES PARK

Lead Designer

James's digital modeling expertise allows us to explore spatial ideas with unprecedented precision. His renderings capture not just form but atmosphere, helping clients visualize the emotional experience of a space.

Our studio also includes talented junior designers, interns, and collaborators who bring fresh perspectives and boundless energy to every project. We're committed to mentoring the next generation of architects who share our values.

How We Think About Design

Architecture is not about buildings—it's about the life that unfolds within them. We design for the morning coffee ritual, the evening conversation, the quiet moment of reflection by a window. Every spatial decision considers how it will feel to inhabit that space day after day, year after year.

Our minimalism is not cold or austere. By limiting our palette—both material and formal—we create environments where small variations carry great weight. The warmth of oak against white plaster. The shift from natural to artificial light at dusk. The sound of footsteps on concrete versus timber. These subtle contrasts create richness without clutter.

We're not interested in signature styles or immediately recognizable forms. Instead, we seek solutions specific to each project's unique conditions—its site, its program, its inhabitants. A beach house and a mountain cabin demand entirely different responses, and we embrace that specificity.

Technology serves our vision rather than driving it. We use advanced modeling, sustainable systems, and innovative materials, but only when they support our core goals of spatial clarity and experiential quality. The best technology is invisible, enabling comfort and efficiency without demanding attention.
